"The Iyengar Yoga Teacher approach to Hatha yoga classes is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his classic treatise, The Yoga Sutras. Iyengar yoga emphasizes the development of strength, stamina, flexibility and balance, as well as concentration (Dharana) and meditation (Dhyana)".  - Iyengar Yoga Institute

"The Human mind can be thought of as a lake.

When a lake is calm, it sits still, the reflection is clear.

Yet sometimes, a pebble falls into the lake and creates rings of disturbance.

And eventually, the rings can grow and disturb the clear reflection of the lake.

Then everything, around and within the lake, is disturbed..

The same is with the mind .. ..

So, keep your mind still . .. .

And don't be influenced by the pebbles which fall within your path."

doggedly like an endurance cyclist,

breathing like a twisted Yogi . . . . . . you go on."

Resolution: YOGA!
I haven't practiced any form of Yoga in a few months now. For so many reasons. I stopped teaching when I became pregnant because the form of Yoga I taught was a mish mosh of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Vinyassa that was at times very challenging physically. This pregnancy has been the perfect opportunity for me to connect with the inner most forms of Yoga.. the inner most me. I feel like I'm in a funk but realized recently that I don't have a 'place' to practice since I moved 5 months ago.

I still have unpacked boxes in my room, which would normally be where I'd roll my mat out. And to those folks who are giften in the art of Yoga anytime, anywhere.. I am not that person. I NEED to have a 'spot' that's sacred that I can step into (and bring with me when I step out of it). It's a sort of conditioning thing for me. Anyone relate to that? Needing or desiring a sacred spot. I know that when I step into this physical place I can let everything dissipate. Fear, worry, etc.. For whatever reason, that's hard for me to do without a 'spot'.

So my New Years Resolution is to create some material space to help me create some spiritual space. Think it's important for this baby and for my heart. It's been awhile since I've gone on a breathing journey and I'm at the point where I miss those journey's so much. They were magical and revealing. I think however, I did need this time to reflect on my practice and *miss* it. Makes the return so much.. sweeter.

Any Resolutions of your own??
